Field Layout Engineer 1 - Construction Site Layout
Overview
As a Field Layout Engineer 1 at JE Dunn, you will own routine construction site layout tasks for a project or portion of a project. You will plan and maintain layout control, establish building corners and permanent reference points, and perform site, roadway, and utility layouts. Working under a supervisor, you will follow directions and refer exceptions, with a clear path to Field Layout Engineer 2. What You'll Do10
- 1Plan, set up, and maintain layout control for assigned construction projects, identifying and reporting unacceptable errors.
- 2Establish building corners and permanent reference points to enable back checks of building location.
- 3Verify existing elevations shown on drawings for roadways and utilities.
- 4Lay out column center lines and wall locations, verifying that the exterior skin is not encroached by the main structure.
- 5Plumb structural steel frames and check column alignments.
- 6Set and maintain benchmarks and control lines on each floor for layout, ensuring workers use proper elevations and control lines.
- 7Check slab elevation and alignment during concrete pours.
- 8Perform as-built surveys to verify correct placement of work and identify conflicts between items of work.
- 9Assist project staff in securing certified layout from independent engineering resources and help maintain as-built drawings.
- 10Calculate earth, rock, and concrete quantities accurately and assist with shop drawing coordination.
Requirements8
- 12+ years construction layout experience (required).
- 2High School/GED or equivalent (required); Bachelor's degree in construction management (preferred).
- 3Basic proficiency in MS Office.
- 4Knowledge of LEAN construction principles.
- 5General knowledge of construction management means and methods.
- 6Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
- 7Basic verbal and written communication skills.
- 8Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
