Fiber Splicer, Telecommunications & OTDR Testing
Overview
As a Fiber Splicer at CCI Systems, you own the splicing, termination, and testing of fiber-optic cables for new constructions and service setups across the Austin, TX area. You will work with single-mode and multi-mode fiber, using OTDR, OLTS, and mass fusion equipment to ensure network reliability. What You'll Do10
- 1Splice and maintain new and existing fiber using fusion splicing equipment
- 2Prep and splice single-mode and multi-mode optical fiber cables, including ribbon and loose tube
- 3Test fiber using OTDR, OLTS, Power Meters, and VFL to ensure performance
- 4Terminate fiber with various connectors and pigtails per project specs
- 5Install splice capsules and hardware, performing mid-sheath cable entries
- 6Maintain active network plant without causing signal failure interruptions
- 7Respond to network outages and perform troubleshooting and repairs with OTDR and VFL
- 8Keep accurate records of progress, including production sheets and time sheets
- 9Complete certification testing of fiber optic systems using OLTS and OTDR
- 10Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to OSHA standards and company policies
Requirements10
- 12+ years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience preferred
- 2Knowledge of fiber optic theory including loss, connector types, and fiber types
- 3Experience with ribbon fiber, loose tube, deribbonizing, and ribbonizing
- 4Ability to test fiber using OTDR, OLTS, Power Meters, and VFL
- 5Ability to use single and mass fusion splicing machines
- 6Ability to read splicing matrices and splice in FTTH, underground, and aerial environments
- 7Ability to place aerial and underground splice closures
- 8Must provide own hand tools; specialty tools provided
- 9Must have a valid driver's license and pass a DOT physical
- 10Willing to travel up to 100% and work in confined spaces or at heights up to 50 feet
