Fiber Optic Technician, Splicing & Testing
Overview
You will own fiber optic splicing and testing for B&M Telecom in the Dallas area, handling new builds and emergency repairs. You will work day, evening, and overnight shifts, with on-call rotations and 25% travel. You will join a small team that values hands-on skill and reliable response. What You'll Do8
- 1Splice fiber optic cables for new installations and network expansions, ensuring low-loss connections.
- 2Test fiber links with OTDR and Power Meter to verify performance and document results.
- 3Respond to emergency repair calls within the Dallas metro, restoring service quickly.
- 4Travel to remote sites as needed (25% of the time) for splicing and testing projects.
- 5Maintain and calibrate splicing equipment, ensuring it is ready for daily use.
- 6Read and interpret blueprints and route maps to determine splicing and testing points.
- 7Coordinate with the field team to complete jobs within customer timelines.
- 8Follow safety protocols when working with fiber, tools, and in traffic areas.
Requirements7
- 11+ years of fiber optic splicing and testing experience, or completion of an apprenticeship program.
- 2Hands-on experience with OTDR, Power Meter, and fusion splicers.
- 3Ability to work all shifts (day, evening, overnight) and be on call for emergency repairs.
- 4Willingness to travel 25% of the time within the region.
- 5Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- 6Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
- 7Fiber optic certification (e.g., CFOT) preferred but not required.
