Overview
Own a caseload from intake through trial at a boutique family law firm serving the North Shore and Greater Boston. You'll first-chair hearings and trials in the Probate and Family Court, manage discovery and settlement negotiations, and develop case strategy alongside clients. This role offers 3-8 years of family law experience, a path to grow your practice and client book, and a $110,000-$140,000 base salary with origination bonuses.
What You'll Do6
- 1Manage your own caseload from initial client meeting through trial and post-judgment matters, making strategic decisions independently.
- 2First-chair hearings, motions, pretrial conferences, and trials in the Probate and Family Court, presenting evidence and arguments.
- 3Develop case strategy and counsel clients directly on their options and likely outcomes, ensuring they understand each step.
- 4Handle discovery, depositions, and settlement negotiations to resolve cases when settlement serves the client.
- 5Participate in the firm's marketing and business development through networking, bar activities, and community presence to build your client base.
- 6Mentor junior team members by sharing trial tactics, legal writing standards, and client management approaches.
Requirements6
- 13-8 years of family law experience with meaningful courtroom and trial experience in divorce, custody, support, or related matters.
- 2Licensed to practice in Massachusetts and in good standing with the Massachusetts Bar.
- 3Able to handle cases with minimal supervision, owning the file and the client relationship from start to finish.
- 4Strong writing, negotiation, and client communication skills demonstrated in legal briefs, motions, and client meetings.
- 5A portable book of business is a plus and rewarded, but not required.
- 6Genuine interest in marketing yourself and the firm through professional networking and community involvement.
