Overview
The Facilities Technician at Gladstone Institutes owns the day-to-day operations of a 600-person research campus in San Francisco's Mission Bay. You'll handle maintenance requests, coordinate lab and office setups, and support EH&S compliance while working with minimal supervision. This role offers hands-on experience across diverse building systems in a cutting-edge biomedical research environment. You'll directly enable groundbreaking science by keeping the facility safe and functional.
What You'll Do9
- 1Respond to maintenance requests and complete work orders across the campus, covering plumbing, electrical, and HVAC issues.
- 2Assist with laboratory and office relocations, including furniture moves and equipment installations, to support evolving research needs.
- 3Monitor building systems such as HVAC, EMS, and life safety equipment to ensure uninterrupted operation.
- 4Support EH&S audits and safety inspections by documenting conditions and correcting minor hazards.
- 5Coordinate conference room setups for meetings, seminars, and events, including audio-visual equipment and seating arrangements.
- 6Collaborate with Lab Aides and other departments on institute-wide projects, including move coordination and special events.
- 7Provide emergency response during business hours and after-hours as needed, including addressing leaks, power outages, or other urgent issues.
- 8Execute preventive maintenance tasks on lab equipment, including autoclaves, glass washers, and fume hoods.
- 9Document work activities in the facility management system and update asset records for compliance.
Requirements9
- 11-2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field.
- 2Experience in laboratory, research, healthcare, or commercial facilities is a plus.
- 3Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- 4Familiarity with EH&S practices and OSHA guidelines.
- 5Ability to perform basic equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
- 6Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve facility issues.
- 7Physical ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally, and to climb ladders.
- 8Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and facility management software.
- 9Must be available for after-hours emergency response on a rotating basis.
