Facilities Assistant Manager, Distribution Center Maintenance
Overview
You will oversee daily preventative and corrective maintenance for a high-volume distribution center, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all company-owned assets. You will directly manage a team of maintenance technicians and custodial staff, collaborating with the Facilities Manager to drive operational excellence. This role demands hands-on expertise with HVAC, electrical systems, and automated conveyors, plus the ability to solve complex problems in real time. You will own the CMMS system, spare parts inventory, and budget management, making a tangible impact on uptime and cost control.
What You'll Do10
- 1Manage and train facilities/maintenance employees across all shifts, covering preventative and corrective maintenance, cleaning, and capital improvements.
- 2Guide building management on efficiency upgrades and operational changes, focusing on reducing downtime and improving workflow.
- 3Enforce Lock Out/Tag Out and Arc Flash safety protocols, ensuring all team members complete required training and follow safety guidelines.
- 4Collaborate with the Facilities Manager to manage maintenance budgets, schedule critical equipment downtime, and meet operational metrics.
- 5Maintain the CMMS for time and meter-based preventative maintenance checklists, corrective actions, and accurate spare parts inventory.
- 6Coordinate emergency maintenance responses and facilitate high-quality repair of conveyor belts and automation systems.
- 7Oversee general building maintenance including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry, and supervise pallet racking installation for safety compliance.
- 8Complete weekly, quarterly, and annual tests on fire suppression and monitoring equipment, and organize warranty repairs with manufacturers.
- 9Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and promote employee engagement aligned with company values.
- 10Collaborate with leadership to create development plans, build bench strength, and hold all team members accountable to expectations.
Requirements9
- 12+ years of relevant experience in distribution center maintenance or facilities management.
- 2Strong background in electrical troubleshooting and maintaining industrial equipment, with electrical/mechanical engineering knowledge.
- 3Knowledge of trades including HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electricity, with ability to read schematics and blueprints.
- 4Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
- 5Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, plus verbal and written communication to explain technical concepts clearly.
- 6Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to business needs.
- 7Customer service-oriented attitude and ability to handle difficult situations with diplomacy.
- 8Ability to work off-shift as needed to respond to urgent maintenance requests.
- 9Forklift certification preferred but not required.
