Facilitator Assistant Direct Support

Overview

Assist with instruction and mentoring at the Dr. Phillip Birdine Learning Center. Foster educational social emotional and physical development according to approved curriculum. Reports to Lead Facilitator.

What You'll Do27

• 1Provide supervision during Learning Center programming
• 2Create a clean safe inviting stimulating physical environment conducive to learning
• 3Assist with implementation of innovative programs for consumers
• 4Establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers parents and staff
• 5Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• 6Aid consumers parents and staff Perform any other duties as assigned
• 7Adhere to the Americans with Disabilities Act ADA 1992 prohibiting discriminatory actions toward those with disabilities
• 8Follow procedures as a mandated reporter to report suspected child or adult abuse or neglect
• 9Meet the physical requirements of working with consumers both indoors and outdoors
• 10Attend meetings and trainings as required by the Center Director and/or Curriculum Coordinator Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises
• 11Tutor individual consumers and small groups of consumers with special learning needs to reinforce and follow-up learning and training activities
• 12Monitor and assist consumers with special learning needs in drill practice and study activities as a follow-up to direct consumers into safe learning activities and functions and assist in shaping appropriate social behaviors
• 13Assist in the management of consumer behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and techniques
• 14Assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids
• 15Maintain a variety of records and files including confidential consumer records and information
• 16Operate and assist consumers in the operation of a variety of instructional media
• 17Monitor and assist in the remediation of specific learning problems
• 18Assist consumers with activities to develop small muscles and eye-hand coordination
• 19Assist consumers with activities for daily living including toileting and personal hygiene
• 20Assist consumers with feeding
• 21Help consumers with projects and work experience activities
• 22Help consumers perform sequence tasks and assist with a variety of arts and crafts projects
• 23May perform routine first aid and CPR
• 24Request appropriate assistance for serious consumer injury or illness
• 25Maintain or assist in maintaining an orderly attractive and positive learning environment
• 26May participate in parental conferences
• 27Assist consumers with special physical needs
