Equipment Technician, Cybercab Powertrain Reliability
Overview
You will own equipment reliability for Cybercab powertrain systems at Tesla's Austin factory, bridging engineering, maintenance, and vendors. Your work covers design support, prototype fabrication, and root cause analysis, directly impacting line uptime and quality. You will use SolidWorks for drafting, run trials per Tesla PCA standards, and operate CNC, waterjet, and 3D printers. This role pairs hands-on mechanical work with data-driven reliability projects, training technicians, and partnering with Reliability Engineers.
What You'll Do6
- 1Design and draft tools, mechanical components, and systems in SolidWorks and eDrawings, contributing to prototyping and design modifications for Cybercab powertrain equipment.
- 2Conduct equipment trials following Tesla PCA standard procedures; track trial details, results, materials, and design changes to ensure specifications and timelines.
- 3Operate fabrication equipment including CNC, Waterjet, 3D printers, welding tools, mills, and lathes to build or modify prototype parts.
- 4Perform daily data collection, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance using dashboards and sensors; develop reports and present findings to the team.
- 5Diagnose equipment failures and lead root cause analysis with 5 Why, Fishbone Diagrams, and Pareto Charts; update Equipment FMEAs with Reliability Engineers.
- 6Support PM development, execution, and training under RCM strategies directed by Reliability and Equipment Engineering.
Requirements7
- 13+ years maintaining industrial equipment, automation, or as an industrial maintenance technician (technical military experience accepted).
- 2Proficient in CAD software, specifically SolidWorks and eDrawings.
- 3Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of materials, fluid mechanics fundamentals, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical testing equipment.
- 4Familiarity with CMMS systems (FLUX or similar); ability to navigate, maintain data integrity, and support spare parts mapping.
- 5Advanced skills across Microsoft 365 apps (Excel, PowerPoint) and experience creating/managing content in Confluence.
- 6Ability to perform physically demanding work for up to 12 hours a day, including standing, walking, lifting up to 35 lbs, and climbing ladders.
- 7Willingness to wear PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, bump cap) and follow safety rules.
