Environmental Permitting Manager, Renewable Energy & Compliance
Overview
Lead environmental permitting for large scale wind solar and battery projects across CAISO PJM and MISO markets in development and pre-construction. Own permitting strategies guiding CEQA NEPA and agency reviews while collaborating with internal development engineering and external consultants. Represent Terra-Gen in industry associations and monitor policy changes impacting project timelines and viability. This role blends field insight with policy analysis to accelerate sustainable energy deployment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and manage multi project environmental permitting efforts in the development and pre construction phase to meet deadlines and permit conditions
- 2Coordinate with consultants for environmental surveys ensuring methodologies meet agency requirements and project needs
- 3Review and edit technical reports for accuracy and defensibility including biological surveys wetland delineations and EIA documentation
- 4Collaborate with development and engineering to align project design with permit commitments and regulatory requirements
- 5Engage with internal teams and external parties to execute work on schedule and develop mitigations for environmental issues
- 6Represent Terra Gen as permitting SME in industry associations and drive policy engagement
- 7Track and analyze proposed policy changes and assess impact on Terra Gen projects and timelines
- 8Identify emerging policy risks and develop mitigation plans with the head of environmental permitting
- 9Coordinate with local state and federal agencies as requested
- 10Support environmental due diligence for development and acquisition opportunities
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in planning environmental science biology natural resources policy or related field
- 23+ years in renewable energy or 6-8+ years in a similar industry with project management experience
- 3Experience interpreting federal and state environmental laws (CEQA NEPA CDFW USFWS ESA MBTA FEMA USACE CWA) and guiding compliance strategies
- 4Knowledge of environmental policy and regulations affecting permitting and project siting
- 5Ability to attend lead agency and resource agency meetings and project check ins
- 6Preferred established relationships with resource agencies
- 7Ability to navigate web based mapping platforms like Google Earth to assess environmental risks
- 8Strong organizational skills and meticulous record keeping
- 9California residency or willingness to be in Pacific time zone preferred
- 10Willingness to travel up to 20% and occasionally overnight coordinating field work and meetings
