Senior Environmental Specialist - T&D Permitting
Overview
You will lead environmental permitting for a portfolio of transmission and distribution projects across Indiana and Ohio, managing timelines and regulatory approvals for AES Indiana and AES Ohio. You will work under the Director of Global Environmental Affairs, coordinating with consultants and agencies from initial site assessment to permit transfer. With 7+ years of experience, you will drive compliance for CWA 404 and stormwater permits while shaping internal standards. This role offers direct involvement in projects that power millions and a chance to influence sustainable energy infrastructure.
What You'll Do9
- 1Manage all environmental permitting for T&D construction projects, including lines, substations, and storage facilities across Indiana and Ohio.
- 2Prepare and submit RFPs, then coordinate consultants for Phase 1 and Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessments.
- 3Develop and refine permitting programs to prioritize and obtain permits for new and rebuilt infrastructure.
- 4Provide environmental due diligence and waste support, including soil sampling and remediation coordination for T&D teams.
- 5Interface with local, state, and federal agencies on permit applications and compliance for projects in Ohio and Indiana.
- 6Coordinate with EHS analysts and contractors to ensure permit conditions are met, including inspections and reporting.
- 7Support the Planning, Siting, and Outreach teams for AES Indiana on community-facing initiatives.
- 8Drive permit packages to completion, ensuring alignment with CWA 404 and NHPA requirements.
- 9Direct emergency response actions for environmental issues, coordinating with vendors for disposal of contaminated materials.
Requirements10
- 17+ years of recent environmental construction permitting or oversight in Indiana and Ohio.
- 2Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
- 3Working knowledge of CWA 404, CWA 401, nationwide permits, and stormwater construction permitting.
- 4Familiarity with RTE species consultations under ESA, MBTA, and BGEPA.
- 5Experience with ASTM E1527-21 for Phase I site assessments.
- 6Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities under pressure.
- 7Strong communication skills for diverse stakeholder groups.
- 8Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- 9Valid driver's license in Indiana or Ohio and willingness to travel between Indianapolis and Dayton.
- 10Self-driven with a focus on quality outcomes and business success.
