Embedded Software Engineer, Firmware & RTOS
Overview
You'll own firmware and desktop software development for a new instrumentation product at KPM Analytics, working hands-on with NXP microcontrollers and RTOS environments. You'll implement features, fix bugs, and support product launch activities alongside a small engineering team. This contract role spans embedded C, sensor integration, and Windows application development, offering direct exposure to a commercial product headed to market. You'll take ownership of tasks from concept to validation, making a tangible impact on the product's release.
What You'll Do8
- 1Develop and maintain firmware for embedded measurement and instrumentation products using C and NXP microcontrollers.
- 2Implement enhancements and bug fixes within the existing NXP microcontroller codebase to improve reliability and performance.
- 3Debug and improve software running in a real-time operating system (RTOS) environment, analyzing system behavior and optimizing resource usage.
- 4Support implementation and optimization of measurement algorithms using camera and time-of-flight sensor technologies.
- 5Troubleshoot and enhance communications interfaces and protocols, including UART, SPI, I²C, USB, CAN, Ethernet, and Modbus.
- 6Develop and enhance features within the existing Windows 11 application (SensorVu), focusing on C# desktop development.
- 7Assist with product validation, software testing, and technical documentation to ensure quality and compliance.
- 8Collaborate with engineering staff to support product launch activities, including integration and debugging sessions.
Requirements10
- 1Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
- 2Hands-on experience with NXP microcontrollers, including development and debugging.
- 3Experience developing or debugging firmware in an RTOS environment.
- 4Familiarity with communications protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, USB, CAN, Ethernet, or Modbus.
- 5Experience interfacing sensors (e.g., camera or time-of-flight sensors) with embedded systems.
- 6Experience with Python or MicroPython for scripting and tooling.
- 7Experience with C# and Windows desktop application development.
- 8Background in instrumentation, measurement systems, data acquisition, or industrial products.
- 9Fluent in English, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- 10Ability to commute to Westborough, MA 01581 and work in person.
