Overview
Director of DevOps and Tooling at Forterra enables autonomy at scale for autonomous battlefield systems. Owns infrastructure platforms that empower engineering teams to iterate rapidly while meeting ITAR and NIST 800-171 compliance. This is a hands-on leadership role driving CI/CD pipelines Terraform and compliance boundaries.
What You'll Do12
- 1Own the technical roadmap for cloud infrastructure CI/CD developer tooling and internal platforms across the company
- 2Define build-vs-buy strategy for engineering tooling balancing vendor solutions open source and in-house development
- 3Set standards for infrastructure-as-code environment reproducibility artifact management and release engineering
- 4Partner with executive team on multi-year platform investments vendor strategy and organizational scaling
- 5Design operate and scale cloud and on-premise infrastructure supporting autonomy development vehicle software simulation and back-office systems
- 6Own architecture and operation of controlled environments like AWS GovCloud satisfying NIST 800-171 CMMC and ITAR requirements
- 7Drive infrastructure cost efficiency through capacity planning workload right-sizing and account architecture
- 8Establish observability alerting and incident response practices for internal platforms
- 9Develop end-to-end developer experience including source control code review build test artifact promotion and deployment
- 10Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting embedded robotics and cloud workloads with cross-compilation hardware targets and long-running simulation jobs
- 11Lead a team of DevOps platform and infrastructure engineers establishing blameless culture mentoring engineers and managing roadmap delivery
- 12Collaborate with software controls systems and program engineering leads to translate compliance constraints into actionable stakeholder decisions
Requirements16
- 110+ years of software infrastructure or DevOps experience including 3+ years leading engineering teams
- 2B.S. in Computer Science or related field with demonstrated depth over specific degree
- 3Deep hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure AWS and IaC tools like Terraform Ansible or equivalent
- 4Production experience with Kubernetes and container-based workloads operating clusters
- 5Proven ownership of CI/CD systems GitLab CI Jenkins or similar at organizational scale with measurable improvements
- 6Experience in regulated environments understanding ITAR NIST 800-171 or comparable security frameworks
- 7Proficiency in a general-purpose language Python Go C# TypeScript for building and maintaining tooling
- 8Familiarity with observability stacks Prometheus Grafana and setting reliability targets
- 9Ability to work with hardware embedded teams and design test infrastructure including HIL benches and virtualized test racks
- 10Minimum 5+ years building ETL pipelines with Spark Airflow and similar tools
- 11Experience owning business-critical internal systems or integrating them with engineering toolchains
- 12Background in aerospace defense automotive robotics or hardware-intensive environments
- 13Experience with AWS GovCloud Landing Zone Accelerator or large-scale controlled-environment migrations
- 14Track record reducing infrastructure costs without compromising compliance or capability
- 15Experience owning ERP MES PLM systems or integrating them with engineering toolchains
- 16Managing distributed or near-shore engineering teams
