Director of Design & Engineering, Fire Sprinkler Systems
Overview
Lead design and engineering for a growing fire protection company serving industrial and commercial clients, impacting multi-site projects with 20+ years of sprinkler experience. You will guide design teams, manage client relationships, and drive strategic growth. You will collaborate with customers, contractors, engineers, and project teams to ensure compliant, high-quality fire protection solutions. This role combines technical leadership, business development, and hands-on project oversight to scale the organization.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead and oversee the company’s fire sprinkler design and engineering operations
- 2Provide technical leadership and mentorship to design and engineering teams
- 3Review and oversee fire sprinkler system designs, hydraulic calculations, drawings, and specifications
- 4Conduct job walks, site visits, field assessments, and project evaluations
- 5Work closely with customers, general contractors, engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders
- 6Help develop fire protection solutions for both industrial and commercial facilities
- 7Review project requirements, plans, specifications, and scope of work
- 8Ensure designs comply with applicable NFPA, local codes, and industry standards
- 9Support estimating, proposals, and project development from a technical perspective
- 10Identify opportunities to improve design processes, efficiency, quality, and profitability
Requirements10
- 120+ years of experience in fire sprinkler design, engineering, or fire protection
- 2NICET certification is strongly preferred
- 3Extensive experience designing fire sprinkler systems
- 4Strong understanding of NFPA standards, fire codes, hydraulic calculations, and fire protection requirements
- 5Experience conducting job walks and field evaluations
- 6Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and plans
- 7Experience working with industrial and/or commercial clients
- 8Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, from design and estimating through installation and completion
- 9Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- 10Ability to lead, mentor, and develop design/engineering personnel
