Fire Sprinkler Designer
Overview
Design and prepare layout drawings for fire sprinkler systems in commercial industrial and residential settings. Own responsibility for applying fire protection codes ensuring compliance with NFPA local and state regulations while delivering safe efficient solutions.
What You'll Do11
- 1Apply fire protection codes and standards to the design of fire sprinkler systems water supplies pumps standpipes foam systems and water storage tanks
- 2Read and interpret Architectural Structural and MEP blueprints technical drawings schematics and computer generated reports
- 3Perform preliminary and advanced work developing working layouts and final master drawings
- 4Confer with engineers consultants or other personnel to layout code compliant fire sprinkler systems
- 5Coordinate and monitor fabrication installation issues and inspection comments
- 6Design automatic fire sprinkler systems standpipe systems fire pumps and underground systems
- 7Perform and analyze hydraulic calculations plot plans and stock list fabricate material for the job site
- 8Assist with preparation of proposal documents technical data such as test procedures reports and maintenance manuals
- 9Ensure designs comply with applicable codes ensure safety standards and client requirements
- 10Walk sites for site surveys requiring long periods standing climbing and descending ladders/steps
- 11Analyze information evaluate results solve problems choose cost effective and material efficient solutions
Requirements8
- 1High school diploma or equivalent associate or bachelor degree in engineering drafting or related field preferred
- 23+ years of experience in fire sprinkler design and AutoCad
- 3Experience using Microsoft Office and computer aided design software Autodesk AutoCAD Autodesk Revit Autodesk Navisworks AutoSPRINK BIM 360
- 4Basic understanding of mathematics and physics relevant to design and hydraulics
- 5NICET certification Level II or higher in Water Based Systems Layout preferred
- 6Physical ability to stand walk use hands climb descend for site surveys
- 7Regular lifting moving heavy objects
- 8Balancing climbing grasping hearing mental acuity pulling pushing repetitive motion speaking talking visual acuity
