Diesel Mechanic Shop Manager, Transportation Maintenance & Leadership
Overview
Own and oversee diesel vehicle maintenance operations at scale, guiding technicians and coordinating with operations to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Lead repair planning, quality control, and parts management within a structured shop environment. Collaborate with management to develop policies and drive cost-effective maintenance programs. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with shop operations and vendor coordination.
What You'll Do6
- 1Lead maintenance operations with Terminal Manager to supervise staff, hire, train, and evaluate performance
- 2Quality control: inspect repairs, file orders, communicate vehicle availability, and ensure safety defects are addressed
- 3Develop and implement maintenance procedures, manage parts inventory and external repairs
- 4Coordinate shop scheduling with operations and oversee environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance
- 5Audit parts, tools, and fuel inventories and manage vendor contracts and service providers
- 6Prepare reports on work assignments, track warranties and recalls, and ensure accurate maintenance documentation
Requirements7
- 1High School Diploma or equivalent with vehicle repair coursework
- 2Two to three years’ experience as a technician in school bus, trucking, or heavy equipment
- 3Diesel mechanical experience required
- 4CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement or ability to obtain within 90 days
- 5Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and operate shop equipment
- 6Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations and safety rules
- 7Strong PC/software aptitude and written/verbal communication skills
