What You'll Do10
- 1Inspect and separate dangerous goods packages using FedEx's sorting systems, ensuring proper segregation and compliance with IATA and DOT regulations.
- 2Palletize and load hazardous materials onto aircraft and trucks, using mechanical lift equipment for packages over 50 lbs.
- 3Verify and distribute dangerous goods paperwork, including shipping papers, air waybills, and emergency response information, to pilots, drivers, and regulatory authorities.
- 4Complete DG certification training within 30 days and maintain recurrent certification through annual refreshers.
- 5Coordinate with ramp and hub teams to meet flight deadlines, prioritizing time-sensitive hazmat shipments.
- 6Respond to spills using spill clean-up kits, following OSHA and FedEx protocols to contain and report incidents.
- 7Audit inbound shipments for hidden or undeclared dangerous goods, flagging discrepancies to supervisors.
- 8Operate handheld scanners and mainframe systems to log tracking updates and maintain real-time visibility.
- 9Assist in training new agents on DG handling procedures and safety practices during peak seasons.
- 10Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all hazmat storage zones meet FedEx audit standards.
Requirements9
- 1High school diploma or GED required. DG certification strongly preferred; must obtain within 30 days if not certified.
- 26+ months of related station, ramp, hub, or safety experience preferred.
- 3Ability to lift 50 lbs and maneuver heavier packages with equipment or assistance.
- 4Proficient in basic computer skills, including mainframe, PC, and internet/intranet applications.
- 5Strong knowledge of IATA and DOT dangerous goods regulations and shipping procedures preferred.
- 6Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to understand safety signs and communicate with officials per FMCSA guidance.
- 7Complete all basic and recurrent training for dangerous goods and spill clean-up if assigned.
- 8Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean record for the past 3 years if driving is a regular duty.
- 9Must be at least 21 years old for driving roles. Part-time schedule: Mon-Fri, 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
