
Design Engineer, SolidWorks & Windchill
Overview
Design Engineer owns the design of custom automated assembly equipment from initial layout to detailed component development. You will drive mechanical design using SolidWorks and Windchill, independently solving complex challenges in a high-stakes manufacturing setting. This contract role sits within a collaborative engineering team and demands a self-starter who thrives on technical depth and design ownership.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own the design of assigned automated assembly equipment from concept layout through release of detailed drawings.
- 2Model complex mechanical components with SolidWorks, ensuring fit, function, and manufacturability.
- 3Manage design data in Windchill, including version control and change management.
- 4Apply advanced engineering principles to solve design challenges on custom equipment.
- 5Adapt and modify existing designs for non-routine or complex assignments.
- 6Participate in formal design reviews with Project Engineers and incorporate feedback to refine designs.
- 7Conduct tolerance stack-ups and select components like bearings, actuators, and sensors to meet performance specs.
- 8Partner with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure designs are production-ready and built to spec.
Requirements6
- 15+ years of mechanical design experience, focused on custom automated equipment.
- 2Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling, assemblies, large assemblies, simulation).
- 3Hands-on experience with Windchill or similar PLM/PDM system for design data management.
- 4Strong understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing methods, and GD&T.
- 5Proven track record of taking designs from concept to production, including troubleshooting.
- 6Excellent communication skills for technical design reviews and cross-functional collaboration.
