Design Director, Platform UI & Design Systems
Overview
You will own the visual interface layer of complex platform engagements, translating UX foundations into production-ready, system-aware UI for enterprise clients. Leading a team of UI designers, you will architect and govern design systems that engineering teams ship in production, partnering with Experience Strategy and engineering peers. The work spans B2B SaaS, content, commerce, and MarTech platforms for telecom, retail, and manufacturing sectors, where your craft sets the standard for pixel-level quality. This role demands a systems thinker who thrives on constraints and drives design quality across long-running engagements.
What You'll Do7
- 1Build and evolve the component libraries and design tokens that engineering teams use in production, owning standards, documentation, and versioning.
- 2Lead design critique and governance rituals to scale quality across multiple concurrent platform engagements, ensuring every component meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- 3Translate wireframes and flows from Experience Strategy into polished, system-aware UI without redoing strategic work, pushing back when needed.
- 4Collaborate deeply with engineering and product management as a peer, participating in technical discussions and ensuring shipped work matches design intent.
- 5Manage the career growth of UI designers, including hiring, performance reviews, and mentorship, fostering a culture of craft and accountability.
- 6Present design rationale and platform vision to senior client stakeholders, translating visual decisions into business language.
- 7Stay current on platform UI trends and accessibility tools, bringing insights into client recommendations and internal capability builds.
Requirements10
- 18+ years in digital product design, with 3+ years in product, platform, or B2B SaaS work, not brand or campaign design.
- 2Demonstrated experience in a design leadership role with direct people management of designers, in an agency or product company.
- 3Strong portfolio of shipped product interfaces evidencing design system thinking and pixel-level craft, with case studies on engineering partnership.
- 4Deep experience designing for enterprise platforms, B2B SaaS, MarTech, or regulated environments like telecom or financial services.
- 5Mastery of Figma, including advanced component architecture, variables, auto-layout, and design system management.
- 6Familiarity with Storybook, Zeroheight, or similar design system documentation tools.
- 7Working fluency in WCAG 2.1 AA standards and accessibility tooling.
- 8Track record of architecting design systems adopted in production, including governance and contribution models.
- 9Experience partnering with UX or research teams, comfortable receiving wireframes and translating them into final UI.
- 10Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills to senior stakeholders.
