Overview
You will prosecute adult and juvenile criminal cases for Clark County, Washington, representing the State in court hearings, trials, and appeals. You will handle a diverse caseload across the full spectrum of criminal offenses, from misdemeanors to felonies. You will work directly with law enforcement, victims, and the community to ensure justice and public safety. What You'll Do10
- 1Prosecute adult and juvenile criminal cases, from charging decisions through trial and sentencing, presenting evidence and arguments in court.
- 2Draft and file legal documents, including motions, briefs, and proposed orders, ensuring compliance with Washington State rules and procedures.
- 3Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategy, citing relevant statutes, case law, and court rules.
- 4Collaborate with law enforcement, victim advocates, and community partners to build strong cases and address community concerns.
- 5Appear at arraignments, pre-trial hearings, trials, and sentencings, advocating for fair and just outcomes.
- 6Prepare witnesses and victims for testimony, explaining court procedures and providing support.
- 7Review evidence and discovery, making decisions on case disposition, including plea negotiations and diversion programs.
- 8Advise law enforcement on legal issues, search and seizure, and investigative practices.
- 9Handle appeals and post-conviction matters, presenting oral arguments and submitting written briefs.
- 10Participate in community outreach and educational programs to promote public understanding of the justice system.
Requirements10
- 1Equivalent to a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- 2Membership in the Washington State Bar or pending results of the Washington Bar examination.
- 3For DPA II: 4+ years of responsible experience in a law office as a practicing attorney.
- 4For Senior DPA: 5+ years of highly responsible experience in a law office as a practicing attorney.
- 5Experience prosecuting criminal cases at the adult and juvenile levels, including trial experience.
- 6Knowledge of ordinances, statutes, court decisions, judicial procedure, and rules of evidence.
- 7Ability to analyze and present facts, evidence, and precedents clearly and logically in court.
- 8Skills in legal research, writing, and oral advocacy, with attention to detail.
- 9Ability to work effectively with diverse communities, law enforcement, and the public.
- 10Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as a condition of employment.
