What You'll Do10
- 1Own case strategy for felony and misdemeanor charges from arraignment through resolution.
- 2Investigate facts, interview witnesses, and challenge evidence to build strong defenses.
- 3Draft and argue motions, including suppression and demurrer motions.
- 4Negotiate with prosecutors for favorable plea agreements or dismissals.
- 5Represent clients at court appearances, hearings, and trials.
- 6Manage discovery, including reviewing police reports, body cam footage, and forensic data.
- 7Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex case planning and trial preparation.
- 8Communicate with clients and families, explaining legal options and case updates.
- 9Handle high-volume caseloads across multiple counties in the Bay Area.
- 10Adapt to rapid case developments and court deadlines.
Requirements9
- 13-5 years of criminal defense experience, including felony trial work.
- 2Active membership in the California State Bar.
- 3Trial experience with jury or bench trials, from voir dire to closing arguments.
- 4Skilled in legal research and writing, with a track record of winning motions.
- 5Strong negotiation skills with a history of securing favorable outcomes.
- 6Ability to manage heavy caseloads and prioritize urgent tasks.
- 7Excellent oral advocacy and client communication skills.
- 8Familiarity with East Bay courts and procedures.
- 9Background in former prosecution or law enforcement is a plus.
Salary Insight
