Data Center Technician - AWS GovCloud | Boston, MA
Overview
You will own hardware and network diagnostics and repairs for AWS GovCloud, keeping critical federal infrastructure running. You'll join a team of software, hardware, and network engineers across AWS Infrastructure Services, working on servers, storage, and networking equipment. This role demands U.S. citizenship and involves on-call rotation and physical work. You'll be a key part of maintaining the highest standards for safety and security, with opportunities to train new team members and improve processes.
What You'll Do8
- 1Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on components, and troubleshoot network issues to maintain service availability.
- 2Serve as the primary contact for engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors to resolve operational issues.
- 3Participate in on-call duties and scheduled maintenance activities, including change management.
- 4Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
- 5Help interview, train, and onboard new team members.
- 6Lift and move material up to 40 pounds, work in cramped or elevated locations, and stand for up to 8+ hours per day.
- 7Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely, and work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations.
- 8Travel to active data center sites as needed, including temporary assignments during training or until the designated facility becomes operational.
Requirements8
- 12+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience, or experience in related IT.
- 22+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking experience, including troubleshooting and repair.
- 3Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
- 4Knowledge of Linux/Unix administration.
- 5Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering), or experience in professional or military IT roles.
- 6Experience managing a team and training/onboarding new members.
- 7U.S. citizenship is required for AWS GovCloud access.
- 8Ability to travel or commute to data center sites, including over 50 miles, as required.
