Data Center Scaling Lead, SL5 Security
Overview
You will own the roadmap for the first SL5 datacenter, scaling from prototype to at-scale build by 2027. You will work with a compact team of engineers and security architects, reporting to the CTO. This role defines the physical and logical constraints that frontier AI labs will build against, with direct input from US intelligence agencies.
What You'll Do6
- 1Translate the SL5 Standard into a practical, sequenced roadmap for a full-scale datacenter build, including schedule, cost, and delay estimates.
- 2Drive the identification of long-lead items: permitting, shell, power, cooling, accelerator procurement, and ICD 705 physical work.
- 3Convert SL5 physical and zoning requirements into buildable constraints for design and construction teams.
- 4Coordinate with technical track partners to embed security requirements that cannot be retrofitted later.
- 5Produce weekly progress reports and risk assessments for the SL5 build.
- 6Own the trade-off analysis between security levels and operational efficiency, ensuring the design meets nation-state threat models.
Requirements6
- 110+ years leading large-scale datacenter builds, from siting through commissioning.
- 2Proven track record of producing credible schedule and cost estimates that survive contact with implementation.
- 3Experience building under regulated, classified, or otherwise security-constrained conditions.
- 4Bonus: ICD 705 / SCIF experience.
- 5Familiarity with SL5 or similar high-security standards is a plus.
- 6Located in the Bay Area and available for in-person work.
