Crisis Response Technician, Night Shift PRN
Overview
You own crisis assessment and intervention for patients in the Emergency Department at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia. You report directly to the RN and coordinate with Physicians to manage inpatient admissions and outpatient referrals. Your day includes observing patient behavior, documenting crisis presentations, and arranging transfers to receiving facilities. You work nights in a PRN role, handling high-acuity cases with BLS certification. This role makes a direct impact on patient safety and care continuity.
What You'll Do9
- 1Observe patient behavior and complete scheduled rounding to ensure safety and prevent escalation.
- 2Use verbal de-escalation techniques to manage crisis behaviors and follow protocols for safe intervention.
- 3Document patient crisis presentation, including mental health status, safety risks, and immediate needs, using EPIC.
- 4Develop and implement crisis disposition plans with the care team, providing resources and referrals.
- 5Coordinate with payers to secure authorization for level of care, including insurance precertification and prior authorization.
- 6Transfer patient clinical information to receiving facilities via phone and fax for bed placement.
- 7Arrange patient transportation for transfer or discharge, and coordinate with community treatment teams when needed.
- 8Assist patients with daily activities like personal care, ambulation, and feeding, encouraging independence when possible.
- 9Participate in unit, hospital, and division meetings, and support orientation of new staff.
Requirements10
- 1High School Diploma or GED with completion of a supervised mental health or addiction practicum.
- 212 college credits in social sciences, or a Bachelor's Degree in humanities or social services.
- 32 years of experience in mental health or addictions care.
- 41 year of experience in mental health or addictions care.
- 5Knowledge of behavioral treatment techniques and procedures for diverse mental health populations.
- 6Familiarity with Jefferson Health operating principles and code of ethics.
- 7Understanding of health information documentation requirements and patient safety protocols.
- 8BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- 9Ability to lift and carry 40-50 lbs and push/pull patients on beds or stretchers.
- 10Frequent standing and walking; patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
