Controls Technician, Building Automation & DDC Systems
Overview
As a Controls Technician, you will own the installation, startup, and commissioning of building automation systems using DDC technology across New York and New Jersey. You will deliver small projects end-to-end, collaborate with project managers and subcontractors, and ensure systems run reliably. This role offers clear growth paths into software and design engineering for technicians skilled in both mechanical and control systems. Work directly with Automated Logic and Phoenix software in a hands-on field environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Install, start up, and commission DDC systems, verifying operation and performance across multiple sites.
- 2Deliver turnkey projects under 80 budgeted hours, managing from installation to closeout.
- 3Troubleshoot mid-level system issues, diagnosing and resolving problems or assisting others.
- 4Coordinate with subcontractors and trades to ensure integrated system operation.
- 5Configure and calibrate unitary systems (VAV, FPB, FCU) and small AHUs.
- 6Load software and verify controller communication, including setup of trends, alarms, and reports.
- 7Document all changes in as-built drawings and complete commissioning paperwork on time.
- 8Train owners and operators on system navigation, alarms, and basic troubleshooting.
- 9Set up operator workstations with WebCtrl and ensure proper network configuration.
- 10Maintain daily logs and keep project management informed of progress and risks.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in building HVAC with a focus on building automation controls.
- 2Field experience installing and operating Automated Logic control systems.
- 3Proficiency with Automated Logic and Phoenix software including WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, and LogicBuilder.
- 4Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking for building automation.
- 5Experience troubleshooting HVAC systems in a field service or commissioning environment.
- 6Ability to use electronic test equipment such as multimeters and network terminals.
- 7Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including VAV and AHU operations.
- 8Competence in software loading and configuration for DDC systems.
- 9Documentation skills for as-built drawings and commissioning reports.
- 10Physical ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds.
