CNC Programmer Setup Machinist 3rd Shift Baltimore
Overview
You will own CNC programming and setup for 3, 4, and 5-axis mills and lathes, supporting aerospace and defense production. You will use Mastercam or NX to develop and validate machining processes, from first-piece prove-out to production support. You will collaborate with machinists and operators to ensure efficient flow and quality. This role combines CAM programming with hands-on setup, requiring you to troubleshoot and refine processes in real time. You will work a compressed 36-hour weekend shift paid for 40 hours.
What You'll Do10
- 1Program and optimize CNC operations for 3, 4, and 5-axis mills and CNC lathes using Mastercam or NX.
- 2Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T to create accurate machining processes.
- 3Select tooling, workholding, and strategies to reduce cycle times while maintaining quality.
- 4Set up machines completely, including tooling, fixturing, offsets, and program verification.
- 5Run and validate first-piece parts to meet tight-tolerance specifications, especially for aerospace components.
- 6Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to setup, tooling, programs, and machine performance.
- 7Collaborate with machinists and cross-functional teams to maintain production flow.
- 8Monitor cycle times and tool life, implementing improvements to boost efficiency.
- 9Update CNC programs, setup sheets, and work instructions for operators.
- 10Ensure part quality through first article and in-process checks, complying with safety and quality procedures.
Requirements9
- 15+ years of combined CNC programming and setup experience on mills and/or lathes.
- 2Strong proficiency with CAM software such as Mastercam or NX.
- 3Experience with multi-axis machining including 3, 4, and 5-axis operations.
- 4Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and machining mathematics.
- 5Proven ability to perform full machine setups and prove out new jobs.
- 6Experience working with tight-tolerance components, preferably in aerospace or similar industries.
- 7Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- 8Ability to work collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
- 9Must be a U.S. Citizen to comply with government trade regulations.
