Overview
This is a remote, part-time opportunity for veteran CNC machinists to help train AI models on what quality manufacturing looks like. Your job is to bring your real-world machine judgment to a project that builds evaluation datasets — you'll write and validate grading rubrics that decide whether a given machining approach would pass muster on a real production floor. The entire workflow is text-based, focusing on CAD models, stock, machine, and tooling context, so clear written communication is just as important as your machining expertise. You'll earn $120–$175 per hour for your time.
What You'll Do5
- 1Draft and refine objective, text-based grading rubrics that evaluate CNC machining solutions against given CAD models and machining parameters (stock, machine, tooling).
- 2For each rubric criterion, write a clear and verifiable explanation of why it matters and how to confirm it.
- 3Review sample machining solutions and determine whether each would be approved or rejected for a production run, providing a detailed pass/fail rationale.
- 4Use your production-floor instincts to ensure rubric criteria reflect practical, safe, and manufacturable approaches, not just theoretical possibilities.
- 5Collaborate with the team to ensure rubrics remain consistent, fair, and applicable across a range of machining scenarios.
Requirements4
- 1At least 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience in a production environment.
- 2Strong judgment about what will and won't run safely and efficiently on real equipment — you can spot a flawed setup before it ever hits the machine.
- 3Excellent written English skills, since all deliverables are text-based and require clear, concise explanations.
- 4Preferred: experience with hobbyist machines like the Makera Carvera and industrial machines like the Haas VF-2.
