Cloud Operations Engineer, IaaS/PaaS & AWS
Overview
You will own the engineering, design, and implementation of core hosting environments for a federal agency at the Department of State, spanning hybrid VPC and global IT infrastructure. You will manage the full lifecycle of AWS, Azure, and on-premises systems, ensuring compliance with DoS data sovereignty and FedRAMP standards. You will drive modernization by transitioning decentralized resources to centralized cloud environments and adopting Docker and Infrastructure as Code. What You'll Do9
- 1Design and implement physical and virtual hosting environments, including IaaS/PaaS and cloud, for all customer systems, ensuring compliance with DoS data sovereignty and security requirements.
- 2Plan and execute infrastructure modernization by transitioning decentralized resources to centralized or cloud-oriented environments using Docker and automated deployment strategies.
- 3Implement automated rapid provisioning with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to minimize manual intervention and capacity-related downtime.
- 4Audit managed assets to detect and remediate configuration drift, maintaining baseline integrity and DoS security templates.
- 5Provide end-to-end engineering support for Windows, UNIX/Linux, and virtual platforms, ensuring availability, performance, and capacity.
- 6Review and recommend new equipment, hardware, software, and cloud services for government approval.
- 7Ensure all hosting environments conform to FedRAMP standards and customer security requirements through lockdown protocols and audits.
- 8Coordinate with SaaS vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless user experience and lifecycle management of cloud-agnostic solutions.
- 9Support adoption of converged or hyperconverged hardware deployments to optimize performance and reduce footprint.
Requirements9
- 16+ years of experience in IT operations or cloud engineering, with a bachelor's degree in IT or related field.
- 2AWS SysOps or Azure Administrator Associate certification.
- 3Active Secret Security Clearance.
- 4Preferred: CompTIA Security+ and ITIL4 Foundation certification.
- 5Experience with containerization using Docker and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- 6Strong understanding of hybrid cloud environments, including AWS and Azure.
- 7Familiarity with FedRAMP compliance standards and government security requirements.
- 8Ability to travel by land or air up to 25% of the time.
- 9Physical ability to sit, stand, ambulate, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 40 pounds.
