CICS System Administrator, Mainframe & Transaction Server
Overview
You will administer and maintain enterprise-scale CICS Transaction Server environments supporting mission-critical workloads. You will join a stable infrastructure operations team in Phoenix, Arizona, collaborating on performance tuning, upgrades, and incident resolution. This hybrid role offers three days onsite per week, giving you direct access to production systems and team collaboration. You will directly impact system reliability and performance for a leading enterprise organization.
What You'll Do8
- 1Install, configure, and maintain CICS Transaction Server regions across development, test, and production environments.
- 2Monitor system performance using Omegamon and other tools, identifying bottlenecks and tuning parameters to ensure optimal throughput.
- 3Manage CICS resources, including programs, transactions, files, and queues, using CICS Explorer and DFHCSDUP.
- 4Coordinate with application teams to deploy new versions of CICS applications, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal downtime.
- 5Troubleshoot abends and system incidents, diagnosing root causes and implementing fixes to restore service quickly.
- 6Apply CICS maintenance using SMP/E and manage PTFs to keep systems current with vendor updates.
- 7Develop and maintain automation scripts using REXX and CLIST to streamline operational tasks.
- 8Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical production incidents.
Requirements8
- 15+ years administering CICS Transaction Server in a mainframe environment with z/OS.
- 23+ years experience with CICS performance monitoring tools such as Omegamon or MainView.
- 3Strong knowledge of CICS internals, including program control, storage protection, and transaction routing.
- 4Hands-on experience with SMP/E for installing maintenance and managing system upgrades.
- 5Proficiency in REXX, CLIST, or JCL for automation and batch processing.
- 6Experience with CICS Explorer and DFHCSDUP for resource definition and management.
- 7Ability to troubleshoot CICS abends and system dumps using IPCS or Capture.
- 8Familiarity with DB2 and MQ integration with CICS is a plus.
