Chief of Staff, VC-Backed Startups
Overview
You will partner with founders and executive teams at SignalFire's portfolio of 200+ VC-backed startups, translating company priorities into action and driving cross-functional initiatives. You'll establish operating cadence, prepare board materials, and support fundraising and strategic planning. This is not a specific role but a talent network that connects you with Chief of Staff opportunities at top early-stage companies. You'll gain visibility into non-public roles and work with tools like Notion, Asana, and Looker.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own the operating rhythm for the executive team, including leadership meetings, goal-setting, and business reviews.
- 2Drive high-priority cross-functional initiatives from problem definition to execution, using Notion or Linear to track progress.
- 3Prepare executive communications, board materials, and investor updates, collaborating with teams via Slack and Google Workspace.
- 4Conduct research and analysis to support decisions on growth, organizational design, and market expansion, leveraging Excel and Looker.
- 5Track company goals and key metrics to ensure accountability, building dashboards in Tableau or Mode.
- 6Identify operational gaps and build processes that improve organizational effectiveness, using Airtable for workflow automation.
- 7Facilitate alignment across functions and resolve issues that span multiple teams, employing Zoom for remote coordination.
- 8Support special projects such as fundraising, annual planning, partnerships, and hiring, using Carta for cap table management and Ramp for financial operations.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, or finance, with a track record of leading cross-functional projects.
- 2Prior experience in a venture-backed startup, high-growth technology company, consulting firm, or investment firm.
- 3Strong analytical skills to turn incomplete information into structured recommendations using Excel and Google Sheets.
- 4Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience preparing executive-level materials in Google Slides or PowerPoint.
- 5Strong organizational skills to manage multiple competing priorities, with proficiency in Asana or Monday.com for project management.
- 6High judgment and discretion when handling sensitive company information, with experience using Salesforce or HubSpot for customer insights.
- 7A low-ego, hands-on operating style, willing to take ownership beyond the job description, and comfortable in ambiguous environments.
- 8Experience working directly with a founder, CEO, or executive leadership team is strongly preferred.
