Overview

Teach chess to elementary and middle school students in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role combines public speaking with community impact, ideal for students or those seeking supplemental income. 20+ years of scholastic chess tradition in SF/Peninsula/Marin County. Training provided, no expert level required. Flexible one-hour classes starting between 2:00 and 3:45 PM. Competitive pay of $50 per class, negotiable with experience.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Lead one-hour chess classes at assigned elementary or middle schools in the Bay Area.
  • 2Teach chess basics including piece movement and opening principles.
  • 3Manage classroom dynamics to keep students engaged and learning.
  • 4Adapt lessons to different skill levels within the same class.
  • 5Travel to multiple school locations across SF, Peninsula, or Marin County.
  • 6Complete fingerprinting and TB test before start date.
  • 7Communicate with school staff and Academic Chess coordinators.
  • 8Arrive on time and ready to teach for each scheduled class.

Requirements7

  • 1Understanding of chess basics (piece movement, opening principles).
  • 2Experience working with children preferred but not required.
  • 3Reliable and professional with own transportation.
  • 4Ability to pass fingerprinting and TB test.
