Category Manager Strategic Sourcing, San Diego
Overview
You will own strategic sourcing for a designated category at SDG&E, driving cost savings and supplier performance across a $50M+ spend portfolio. You will join a collaborative team of three category managers and report directly to the hiring manager. This contract role offers a clear path to full-time employment based on performance and business needs. You will negotiate contracts, manage supplier relationships, and implement sourcing strategies that directly impact operational reliability.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build a category strategy for assigned spend areas, identifying cost reduction opportunities and risk mitigation.
- 2Lead supplier negotiations for contracts up to $5M, securing favorable terms and pricing.
- 3Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define requirements and align sourcing initiatives with business goals.
- 4Drive the RFx process from sourcing through award, ensuring compliance with procurement policies.
- 5Manage supplier performance through quarterly business reviews, tracking KPIs and driving continuous improvement.
- 6Execute contract renewals and amendments, minimizing legal and financial exposure.
- 7Develop and maintain spend analytics dashboards to track savings and category trends.
- 8Perform market research to identify emerging suppliers and industry best practices.
- 9Support cross-functional projects to streamline procurement processes and reduce cycle times.
- 10Ensure all sourcing activities comply with regulatory and sustainability standards.
Requirements8
- 15+ years in strategic sourcing, category management, or procurement, preferably in utilities or energy sector.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 3CPSM or C.P.M. certification is a plus.
- 4Proficiency in SAP Ariba and Microsoft Excel for spend analysis and reporting.
- 5Strong contract negotiation skills with a track record of achieving cost savings.
- 6Experience managing suppliers and building stakeholder relationships.
- 7Knowledge of sourcing regulations and compliance requirements.
- 8Excellent communication and presentation skills for executive-level reporting.
