Cashier, Food Service & Retail - Chicago Botanic Garden
Overview
You'll own the point-of-sale at Chicago Botanic Garden, processing transactions for guests across cafes and retail lines. This role sits on the Levy team, a leader in Food and Beverage hospitality. You'll handle cash, reconcile drawers, and keep service areas spotless. You'll also stock pastries, coffee, and condiments while maintaining ServSafe standards. The garden sees high traffic on weekends and events, so you'll keep lines moving and guests happy.
What You'll Do8
- 1Sell to guests, scanning items and entering orders into the POS system with speed.
- 2Handle cash, credit, and declining balance cards, issuing receipts and making correct change.
- 3Reconcile your cash drawer at shift start and end, flagging any overage or shortage.
- 4Keep the service line stocked with coffee, condiments, and pastry case items.
- 5Clean tables, counters, and serving areas to meet ServSafe and company sanitation rules.
- 6Answer guest questions about the menu and resolve complaints with a smile.
- 7Follow cash handling procedures, including issuing refunds and following inventory checks.
- 8Support food prep and other stations as needed during peak rushes.
Requirements8
- 11+ year experience in cashier or food service roles.
- 2Math skills to make change and count cash accurately.
- 3Ability to stand for 6-8 hour shifts and lift up to 25 pounds.
- 4Friendly and professional when dealing with customers.
- 5Willing to get Food Handler certification within 30 days.
- 6Comfortable using POS systems and handling multiple payment types.
- 7Flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- 8Must pass background check per Compass Group policy.
