Camera and Lidar Optical Development Engineer - Lunar Avionics
Overview
You will lead the development of camera and lidar optical sensor systems for rendezvous navigation proximity operations and docking on Blue Origin lunar vehicles. This role involves full life cycle involvement from concept to flight hardware for crewed and uncrewed lander systems. The position requires interdisciplinary coordination across internal stakeholders and external suppliers to enable state-of-the-art aerospace missions.
What You'll Do8
- 1Collaborate in the development of vision and lidar optical sensor hardware for GN&C of crewed and uncrewed lander systems
- 2Design imaging optics for visible and LWIR systems including image quality analysis tolerance analysis and stray-light analysis
- 3Support fabrication and lab testing of prototype hardware
- 4Assist with procurement vendor coordination delivery acceptance installation verification validation qualification and certification of component hardware
- 5Support component-level test programs including sensor characterization calibration and integrated on-vehicle testing
- 6Participate in environmental testing shock vibration thermal vacuum and flight tests to validate system specifications
- 7Engage in program level technology development mission assurance safety initiatives and avionics process improvements
- 8Communicate development status risks and challenges to management
Requirements5
- 1B.S. in Physics Optical Engineering Electrical Engineering Imaging Science or related area of study
- 22+ years of related experience with cameras image sensors and optical sensing systems
- 3Experience in development prototyping testing and calibration of cameras lidar or other optical imaging systems for aerospace automotive medical or robotics applications
- 4Knowledge of optical imaging system components lenses lasers sensors and image processing electronics
- 5Expertise with optical system design and simulation tools such as Zemax OpticStudio Code V FRED LightTools
