Manufacturing Engineer Sr, Lunar Operations
Overview
8+ years in manufacturing engineering, you will lead industrialization of Lunar vehicle systems at Blue Origin. You will own design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT) across fluids, avionics, optics, antennas, and mechanical assemblies. You will collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to accelerate the road to space. This role drives high-reliability production for lunar missions, where every process must meet AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards. You will implement Lean manufacturing and advanced technologies like additive manufacturing to optimize production timelines.
What You'll Do9
- 1Industrialize new Lunar products, translating engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
- 2Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) reviews with engineering teams.
- 3Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
- 4Evaluate and implement composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, and advanced assembly methods.
- 5Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conformances, enhancing reliability and performance.
- 6Participate in process FMEAs and risk assessments for new production lines and equipment.
- 7Identify and implement efficiency gains and cost reduction opportunities across manufacturing operations.
- 8Ensure compliance with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality and safety standards.
- 9Support the fabrication of multi-layer insulation (MLI), fluids, harnesses, and mechanical assemblies.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
- 28+ years in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role.
- 31+ years creating English work instructions.
- 4Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
- 5Ability to work second shift with flexibility to move shifts as needed.
- 6Experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace or automotive is preferred.
- 7Experience with multi-layer insulation (MLI), machining, fluids fabrication, harness fabrication, or composites is preferred.
- 8Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering fundamentals for mechanical design.
- 9Experience with bill-of-materials and BOM reconciliation.
- 10Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and AS9100 quality standards.
