NAVSEA standard items and shipyard specs guide a seasoned Blaster to lead surface prep and coating application on naval and commercial vessels at scale. What You'll Do7
- 1Build and perform abrasive blasting and hydro blasting to achieve target surface profiles on steel and aluminum substrates
- 2Design and execute coating applications with epoxies and anti-fouling systems using airless spray, conventional spray, and brush/roller techniques
- 3Set up and maintain preservation equipment including blast pots, spray pumps, air compressors, and ventilation systems
- 4Measure wet and dry film thickness with gauges and ensure compliance with technical specifications
- 5Interpret PCP and OQE to document environmental conditions and blast profiles
- 6Record precise Condition Found Reports when damage or excessive corrosion is identified
- 7Manage hazardous materials handling, labeling, and disposal per environmental regulations
Requirements5
- 1Minimum of 3-5 years of marine painting and blasting experience in a shipyard
- 2Deep knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 and industrial safety protocols
- 3Ability to mix multi-component coatings and operate high-pressure airless spray equipment
- 4Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS credentials for access to military installations
- 5Thorough understanding of confined space entry, fall protection, and respirator fit-testing requirements
