Basketball Coach, Youth Sports & Officiating
Overview
You'll coach and officiate Basketball for youth, teens, and adults at the Butler County Family YMCA, shaping program quality for 100+ participants across multiple seasons. You'll own curriculum development, game-day operations, and participant safety, supported by a team of program directors and fellow coaches. This part-time role offers free YMCA membership and discounted programs, with real impact on community wellness and youth development.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build and run practice plans that teach Basketball fundamentals and team strategies for each age group.
- 2Officiate games with confidence, enforcing rules and keeping play safe and fair for all participants.
- 3Design a season-long Basketball curriculum that matches skill levels and YMCA values.
- 4Track rosters, attendance, and scorebooks using spreadsheets and paper records, updated weekly.
- 5Communicate with parents and guardians about schedules, player progress, and program expectations.
- 6Set up and break down courts, equipment, and safety gear before and after each session.
- 7Model positive behavior and resolve conflicts calmly during practices and games.
- 8Attend monthly staff meetings and complete CPR/First Aid/AED training within 30 days of hire.
- 9Follow YMCA policies for child abuse prevention, emergency response, and medical incidents.
Requirements9
- 115+ years old (minimum age).
- 21+ year coaching or playing Basketball or related sports like Baseball or Hockey.
- 3CPR/First Aid/AED Certification required within 30 days of hire, preferred at start.
- 4Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with kids, parents, and staff.
- 5Sound judgment and decision-making in fast-moving game situations.
- 6Ability to build rapport with diverse groups from all community backgrounds.
- 7Physical ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds during sessions.
- 8Flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours based on game schedules.
- 9Must pass PA Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Certification, FBI Clearance, NSOR, and Mandated Reporter Training.
