Overview

Own the strategy and operations of BTWCSC's Food to Freedom programs, serving 500+ daily meals and weekly fresh markets in San Francisco's Fillmore/Western Addition. This role anchors a century-old Black-led nonprofit, managing a team of 5-7 staff and a $2M+ budget. You'll lead citywide food system advocacy, build partnerships with local farmers and chefs, and advance a culturally rooted model of food sovereignty. Stand apart by co-designing a pilot Food Hub and integrating permaculture education into direct service.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Lead and supervise the Food to Freedom Team, coaching staff toward a culture of excellence.
  • 2Refine and implement the 'Cultural Atlas' model mapping program activities, outcomes, and impacts.
  • 3Oversee daily operations: community meals, CSA boxes, and Friday Fresh markets, ensuring food safety and quality.
  • 4Manage food supply chains: ordering, purchasing, storage, rotation, and distribution under ServSafe standards.
  • 5Drive data collection and reporting, building dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
  • 6Cultivate partnerships with mission-aligned chefs, farmers, and policy coalitions to expand food access.
  • 7Co-lead strategic planning for the Fillmore/Western Addition Food Hub pilot with the Executive Team.
  • 8Collaborate with Finance and Development on grants, budgets, and revenue strategies for sustainability.
  • 9Develop and execute zero-waste policies and integrate culturally relevant menu planning.
  • 10Represent BTWCSC in coalitions, presenting workshops on food justice and sustainable systems.

Requirements10

  • 14-5+ years in food production, restaurant, grocery retail, or hospitality management.
  • 23+ years leading and coaching a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • 3Degree in culinary sciences, food systems, sustainability, nutrition, or equivalent experience.
  • 4Experience managing program budgets and ensuring fiscal accountability.
  • 5Proven track record in sustainable sourcing and reducing food waste.
  • 6Knowledge of food inequities and cultural needs of underserved communities.
  • 7Strong advocacy and coalition-building skills with community partners.
  • 8ServSafe certification and current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • 9Valid CA driver's license with clean record.
  • 10Proficiency in Google Suite and MS Excel.
