Associate Attorney, Medical Malpractice Defense Seattle
Overview
You will own complex medical malpractice and civil litigation defense cases from filing through trial, handling high-exposure matters for physicians, hospitals, and healthcare systems across the Pacific Northwest. You'll work directly with clients, experts, and firm leadership, shaping case strategy and driving resolutions. The firm offers a hybrid schedule and a clear path to partnership. 5+ years of litigation experience is required, with a J.D. and WA Bar membership.
What You'll Do8
- 1Manage complex litigation matters from inception through resolution, including case strategy and client communication.
- 2Develop and execute case strategy in partnership with clients and firm leadership, driving outcomes in medical malpractice and civil litigation cases.
- 3Draft and argue substantive motions in state and federal court, with a focus on dispositive and evidentiary issues.
- 4Conduct and defend depositions, including expert witness depositions, to build the record and prepare for trial.
- 5Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial, including settlement negotiation and trial exhibits.
- 6Work directly with physicians, hospital administrators, risk managers, insurers, and expert witnesses to develop case themes and defenses.
- 7Mentor and collaborate with junior attorneys and support staff, fostering a high-performing trial team.
- 8Take an active role in trial preparation and courtroom advocacy, including openings, closings, and witness examinations.
Requirements8
- 1J.D. from an accredited law school and active Washington State Bar membership in good standing.
- 25+ years of civil litigation experience, with significant experience in insurance defense, professional liability, healthcare litigation, or medical malpractice defense strongly preferred.
- 3Proven ability to independently manage a litigation caseload, from pleadings to trial.
- 4Strong deposition, motion practice, and courtroom skills, with a track record of effective advocacy.
- 5Exceptional legal research, writing, and advocacy abilities, with attention to detail.
- 6Ability to analyze complex medical, technical, and legal issues, including causation and standard of care.
- 7Strong client management and communication skills, with a customer-service mindset.
- 8Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, with leadership aptitude.
Salary Insight
$155 - $200k per year
