Assistant Nurse Manager Emergency Department
Overview
You will own daily operations for a high-acuity emergency department at South Miami Hospital, directing a team of nurses and support staff to deliver safe, quality care. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, you will manage staffing, patient flow, and clinical outcomes across a 24/7 unit. You will collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and case managers to coordinate care for diverse patient populations. What You'll Do8
- 1Direct daily patient care operations for the emergency department, coordinating admissions, discharges, and transfers to maintain patient flow.
- 2Supervise a team of registered nurses and support staff, assigning duties and monitoring performance to meet quality and safety standards.
- 3Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and patient care standards, including state and federal guidelines.
- 4Facilitate communication between shifts, physicians, and ancillary departments to resolve issues and optimize patient outcomes.
- 5Lead performance improvement initiatives by analyzing data on clinical indicators such as door-to-doctor times and patient satisfaction.
- 6Manage staffing schedules and resources, adjusting in real-time to handle volume surges and skill mix needs.
- 7Orient and mentor new nurses, providing guidance on clinical competencies and emergency protocols.
- 8Act as a clinical resource for complex cases, providing direct patient care when needed and stepping in for the nurse manager in their absence.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN) required; MSN preferred.
- 23+ years of clinical experience in an acute care setting, ideally in the emergency department.
- 32 years of leadership experience preferred, including charge nurse or supervisory roles.
- 4Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida.
- 5Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required for neonatal care.
- 6Certification in area of specialty or nursing leadership within 2 years of hire.
- 7Strong communication and interpersonal skills to lead a diverse team.
- 8Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, such as Epic.
- 9Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
