Asset Protection Detective, Retail Security & Surveillance
Overview
As an Asset Protection Detective, you will own loss prevention at Macy's Green Hills, reducing shortage in a 160-year-old retail landmark. You will operate CCTV surveillance, conduct plainclothes investigations, and partner with local law enforcement to apprehend shoplifters and dishonest employees. In this role, you will recover stolen merchandise, document evidence, and testify in court, while fostering a safe shopping environment. What You'll Do9
- 1Operate CCTV and reporting systems to identify theft and shortage trends in the first 90 days.
- 2Partner with store teams and law enforcement to build cases against organized retail crime.
- 3Apply de-escalation tactics to defuse shoplifting incidents without physical confrontation.
- 4Prepare detailed reports, statements, and evidence for investigations and legal proceedings.
- 5Train colleagues on asset protection protocols to reduce internal and external loss.
- 6Recover stolen merchandise and document apprehension in compliance with company policy.
- 7Respond to alarm calls and support emergency response, including first aid for customers.
- 8Testify in criminal and civil court to support successful prosecution of theft cases.
- 9Maintain strict confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information.
Requirements10
- 11+ years in retail, security, or investigations (preferred).
- 2Ability to observe and identify suspicious activity in a retail environment.
- 3Strong communication skills for effective partnership with customers, colleagues, and law enforcement.
- 4Sound judgment and de-escalation skills to manage high-pressure situations.
- 5Proficiency in writing accurate incident reports and handling evidence chain-of-custody.
- 6Experience with surveillance systems and investigative technology (preferred).
- 7For New York roles: current New York State Security Guard License required.
- 8Physical stamina for prolonged standing, walking, and enclosing in surveillance areas.
- 9Capability to apprehend shoplifters and lift up to 30 lbs.
- 10Visual acuity for monitoring CCTV feeds and identifying details.
