Asset Protection Detective, Macy's Hillsdale
Overview
You will own shrinkage reduction and theft response for a high-traffic Macy's location, using CCTV, exception reporting, and case management software to identify and resolve internal and external theft. You'll join a 10-person Asset Protection team and partner daily with store leadership, law enforcement, and loss prevention analysts. This role stands out for its direct courtroom exposure, including testifying in criminal and civil cases, and its emphasis on de-escalation and colleague training.
What You'll Do10
- 1Detect and respond to theft using CCTV surveillance, exception reporting, and POS monitoring, apprehending suspects per New York State law and company policy.
- 2Build and maintain partnerships with NYPD and district attorneys to support prosecutions and recover stolen merchandise.
- 3Document all incidents in case management software, preparing statements, evidence, and reports for court proceedings and internal audits.
- 4Train store colleagues on shrink reduction protocols, including floor awareness and suspicious activity recognition.
- 5De-escalate confrontational situations using verbal judo and conflict resolution techniques, ensuring safety for customers and staff.
- 6Respond to alarm activations, emergency calls, and first aid situations, coordinating with emergency services as needed.
- 7Conduct internal investigations into dishonest employees, using interviews and data mining to confirm violations.
- 8Audit high-shrink areas like electronics and cosmetics, adjusting surveillance and sensor placement based on loss trends.
- 9Testify in civil court for recovery lawsuits, presenting evidence and articulating investigative methods.
- 10Operate surveillance equipment for extended periods, maintaining clear visibility and chain of custody for evidence.
Requirements8
- 11+ years in retail loss prevention, security, or law enforcement roles, with hands-on CCTV and apprehension experience.
- 2New York State Security Guard License required at time of hire.
- 3Strong observational skills to identify suspicious behavior and theft techniques in real-time.
- 4Proven written and verbal communication for police reports and court testimony.
- 5Familiarity with exception reporting tools like Appriss Retail or Raptor is a plus.
- 6Ability to stand and walk for 8-hour shifts and lift up to 30 lbs.
- 7High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in criminal justice preferred.
- 8Willingness to work weekends and holiday seasons, with schedule flexibility based on store needs.
