Overview

As an Animal Control Officer with the Humane Society of Carroll County, you will rescue animals from hazardous situations and enforce local animal laws across Carroll County. You will work alongside area police agencies, transport animals, and educate the public on responsible pet ownership. What You'll Do10

  • 1Rescue animals from dangerous situations, including handling sick, injured, vicious, and impounded animals.
  • 2Euthanize injured animals according to protocols, with certification in EBI within 6 months.
  • 3Partner with area police agencies on animal-related investigations and enforcement.
  • 4Educate the public on responsible companion animal ownership and provisions of the Carroll County Code.
  • 5Operate an official Animal Control vehicle as a mobile representative of HSCC.
  • 6Respond to calls, conduct investigations, and assist field staff as needed.
  • 7Prepare reports and legal documents, and testify in court when required.
  • 8Answer phone calls and dispatch calls to officers.
  • 9Manage dog license sales and data entry, and collect evidence following procedures.
  • 10Complete special projects assigned by the Director of Animal Control Operations.

Requirements10

  • 12+ years of animal handling experience in a veterinary clinic, boarding kennel, or shelter
  • 2High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 321+ years of age
  • 4Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • 5Clear criminal background record
  • 6Ability to lift 50+ pounds with assistance
  • 7Certification or ability to obtain EBI, Chemical Capture, and Pepper Spray within required timeframes
  • 8Computer literacy including Microsoft Office, email, Internet, and Chameleon database
  • 9Pre-exposure rabies vaccination
  • 10Availability for on-call nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies
