Our Animal Services division seeks an experienced self-motivated officer to join the Field Services unit in Portland. What You'll Do9

  • 1Gather and record comprehensive data on animal calls and owner interactions
  • 2Maintain digital logs of daily activities including impounded animals
  • 3Impound and provide information about stray animals to the public
  • 4Handle sick injured or deceased domestic and wildlife animals
  • 5Transport animals with varying medical and behavioral conditions
  • 6Prioritize calls based on animal wellbeing and public safety
  • 7Support disaster response efforts and coordinate with emergency agencies
  • 8Communicate with community partners including law enforcement and animal welfare groups
  • 9Assist in implementing culturally responsive practices within animal control operations

Requirements10

  • 1Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade with six months of animal-related experience
  • 2Six months of customer service experience
  • 3Valid driver's license and ability to obtain Sheriff’s Special Deputy commission within six months
  • 4Pass a criminal background check
  • 5Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
  • 6Strong written and verbal communication skills following protocols
  • 7Experience operating Multnomah County Animal Control vehicles
  • 8Physical agility for outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • 9Demonstrated teamwork and conflict resolution abilities
  • 10Transferable skills from education or military experience relevant to animal control
