AI Research Scientist, Clinical Reasoning Models
Overview
You will own the technical agenda for clinical reasoning and computer-use models at Optexity, a product-driven research lab with proprietary physician data no other lab can reach. Working directly with founders and a small team from Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, CMU, and IIT, you will define and execute research that ships inside real clinics and hospitals. This is a founding hire role: you get full compute, direct access to proprietary clinical trajectories, and the freedom to turn open-ended problems into working models. You will publish papers, build benchmarks, and see your research deployed in production, backed by investors like Jeff Dean and Neotribe VC.
What You'll Do7
- 1Analyze proprietary clinical data from hospital partners to uncover insights that shape model and product direction.
- 2Build clinical reasoning models with Python and PyTorch that improve physician workflows in live deployments.
- 3Design and publish benchmarks that reveal where current LLMs fail on real clinical reasoning tasks.
- 4Evaluate computer-use models on real-world tasks, including systems with no APIs using our open-sourced integration infrastructure.
- 5Own the training and evaluation pipeline end to end, from data curation to model deployment.
- 6Transform open-ended research questions into working models, iterating rapidly with minimal structure.
- 7Write technical reports and papers for venues like NeurIPS, ICML, and CVPR.
Requirements7
- 15+ years of research experience in machine learning, with a proven ability to define novel problems.
- 2Hands-on experience training models from scratch (not just fine-tuning APIs) using Python and PyTorch.
- 3Master's degree or higher in ML, computer science, or a related field.
- 4Track record of publishing in top venues like NeurIPS, ICML, or CVPR.
- 5Comfort with ambiguity and open-ended problems, driving them to concrete outcomes.
- 6Strong ownership mindset, taking full responsibility for results without hand-holding.
- 7Genuine interest in startup pace and direct collaboration with founders.
