Overview

This role owns the facility wound care program at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital Austin Round Rock, a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital with LTACH, inpatient rehab, and outpatient wound care. Direct a 12-bed rehab unit and a Hyperbaric oxygen suite with two chambers. You'll set standards, educate staff, consult on complex wounds, and drive outcomes tied to CMS and LTRAX reporting. This position offers a rare blend of clinical leadership and hands-on care in a multidisciplinary team environment.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Build the facility wound care program, aligning patient protocols, documentation tools, and WCC referral criteria with national standards.
  • 2Set care standards and competencies for wound, ostomy, and continence practices, ensuring staff meet quality and cost goals.
  • 3Consult on all admissions to evaluate wounds, establish treatment plans, and flag issues early, using NPIAP and AHCPR guidelines.
  • 4Advise staff and physicians on non-healing wounds, recommending evidence-based changes to orders within two weeks of no progress.
  • 5Lead RCA investigations for wound-related adverse events and craft action plans with nursing leadership.
  • 6Train new Wound Care Coordinators and provide ongoing education on hospital-approved products.
  • 7Monitor CMS quality data by completing LTRAX records and collaborating with Support Center to manage the formula.
  • 8Champion performance improvement initiatives to elevate clinical outcomes across the hospital.

Requirements9

  • 11-3 years of licensed RN experience in acute care or LTAC settings.
  • 2Active state RN license; BSN preferred.
  • 3WOCN, CWS, or WCC certification, or obtain within 12 months.
  • 4BLS certification required.
  • 5Knowledge of NPIAP, AHCPR, WOCN, and CDC guidelines for wound care.
  • 6Experience with wound debridement within scope of practice.
  • 7Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop nursing staff.
  • 8Fluent English and strong communication skills for teaching patients and families.
  • 9Program management experience in a healthcare setting.
