Wire Harness Engineer - Zuken E3 Design
Overview
You will own the mechanical design and packaging of complex wire harness systems for next-generation battery energy storage products, transitioning from development to high-volume manufacturing. You will work with Zuken E3 and SOLIDWORKS to create harness schematics, 3D models, and manufacturing documentation. Collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams, you will ensure production-ready solutions that balance reliability, manufacturability, and cost. This role offers high visibility and direct influence on product deployment readiness.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and develop complex wire harness systems using Zuken E3 and SOLIDWORKS, creating schematics, architecture, and interconnection documentation.
- 2Define harness routing paths, breakout locations, branch points, and connector interfaces, optimizing for manufacturability and serviceability.
- 3Design mechanical retention solutions including clips, brackets, mounts, strain relief, and cable management features.
- 4Route harnesses through battery pack assemblies, enclosures, and subsystems, performing packaging studies to ensure clearance, bend radius, and environmental protection.
- 5Select connectors, terminals, backshells, and sealing solutions, integrating IP-rated systems for demanding environments.
- 6Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing packages, maintaining Zuken E3 documentation and release processes.
- 7Support prototype, pilot, and production launches, troubleshooting harness issues during assembly and testing.
- 8Drive root cause investigations and corrective actions for harness-related failures, collaborating with manufacturing teams to improve assembly efficiency.
Requirements11
- 1Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 25+ years of wire harness design experience in a production environment.
- 3Required experience with Zuken E3 for harness design, schematic development, and documentation.
- 4Strong SOLIDWORKS experience, including 2D and 3D modeling.
- 5Proven ability to design and release production wire harness assemblies.
- 6Expertise in mechanical harness routing, packaging, and integration.
- 7Experience with connector selection and mounting/retention solutions.
- 8Knowledge of IP-rated connectors, sealed interfaces, and environmental protection.
- 9Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- 10Experience creating manufacturing documentation, engineering drawings, and BOMs.
- 11Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
