
Web Accessibility Specialist, Part Time Contract Nashville
Overview
You will own accessibility compliance for Tennessee's HR websites, auditing and remediating WCAG 2.1 issues across a suite of public-facing pages. You will work with a small team of developers and content editors, reporting to the HR digital lead. This part-time hybrid role (5 hours daily) lets you drive measurable impact on government digital services in Nashville.
What You'll Do8
- 1Audit HR websites against WCAG 2.1 AA standards, documenting violations and prioritizing fixes.
- 2Collaborate with developers to implement ARIA attributes, semantic HTML, and keyboard navigation improvements.
- 3Create accessibility conformance reports and track remediation progress using Jira.
- 4Conduct user testing with assistive technologies like JAWS and VoiceOver.
- 5Provide training to content editors on accessible content creation in Drupal.
- 6Develop and maintain accessibility patterns and guidelines for new site features.
- 7Ensure third-party widgets and embedded media meet WCAG requirements.
- 8Coordinate with vendors to plan and execute the first accessibility audit of the portal.
Requirements8
- 13+ years in web accessibility consulting or auditing.
- 21+ years experience with WCAG 2.1 and Section 508.
- 3Hands-on experience with JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
- 4Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for testing.
- 5Experience using Drupal or similar CMS.
- 6Knowledge of ARIA and WAI-ARIA authoring practices.
- 7Strong analytical and communication skills.
- 8Part-time commitment of 5 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
