VictoriaMetrics Architect, VMCluster & Kubernetes
Overview
You will own the design, deployment, and operation of VictoriaMetrics clusters at scale, handling high-cardinality workloads in production. You will architect VMCluster deployments and integrate with Kubernetes, AWS, and Grafana. Your stack includes VictoriaMetrics, Prometheus, Thanos, and ClickHouse. You will lead performance tuning and capacity planning across multi-terabyte time-series environments. This role stands out for deep work on VMCluster internals and on-call responsibility for critical observability infrastructure.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design VMCluster topologies for high-cardinality workloads, including vmstorage, vminsert, and vmselect sharding.
- 2Deploy and manage VictoriaMetrics clusters on Kubernetes using Helm and Kube-VictoriaMetrics.
- 3Optimize vmstorage disk I/O and memory usage for sustained write loads exceeding 1 million metrics per second.
- 4Configure vmagent for scraping and remote write, including service discovery and relabeling rules.
- 5Implement Grafana dashboards and alerting for cluster health, query latency, and resource saturation.
- 6Automate cluster scaling and failover using Terraform and Ansible.
- 7Debug VictoriaMetrics performance bottlenecks, including cardinality explosion and slow queries.
- 8Document runbooks and train SRE teams on VMCluster operations.
Requirements8
- 15+ years operating VictoriaMetrics in production with VMCluster handling high-cardinality workloads.
- 2Expert knowledge of VMCluster internals, including vmstorage, vminsert, vmselect data flow and replication.
- 33+ years managing Kubernetes clusters and deploying time-series databases on AWS.
- 4Proficiency with PromQL and MetricsQL for query optimization.
- 5Hands-on experience with Grafana, Alertmanager, and Prometheus in large-scale environments.
- 6Experience with ClickHouse and Thanos for long-term storage and analytics.
- 7Strong scripting skills in Python or Go for automation and tooling.
- 8AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CKA certification preferred.
