Veterinary Technician Team Lead, Chemotherapy Oncology
Overview
Lead chemotherapy preparation and administration for oncology patients at a new specialty hospital opening in La Mesa, CA. You will own hazardous drug handling, patient monitoring, and client education while coordinating with oncologists and technicians. This role demands 2+ years of clinical veterinary experience and certification in chemotherapy administration. You will build the chemo program from day one, ensuring USP compliance and setting the standard for patient safety.
What You'll Do7
- 1Prepare and administer chemotherapy agents using biological safety cabinets and PPE within the first 90 days.
- 2Monitor patients during and after treatment, documenting responses and reporting adverse reactions to the oncologist.
- 3Perform venipuncture and place IV catheters for treatment and diagnostics.
- 4Educate clients on chemo protocols, side effects, and home care, providing compassionate support.
- 5Maintain accurate treatment logs and chemotherapy calculations, reviewed per hospital policy.
- 6Oversee chemotherapy inventory, including ordering hazardous drugs and equipment maintenance.
- 7Coordinate safety training and competency assessments for the oncology team.
Requirements5
- 12+ years clinical veterinary experience with strong venipuncture and catheter skills.
- 2Experience with critically ill patients and ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- 3Preferred background in veterinary oncology and advanced chemotherapy certification.
- 4Familiarity with ezyVet or similar EMR systems preferred.
- 5Knowledge of USP standards and hazardous drug handling protocols.
