Overview
You own surgical care and medical oversight for a high-volume shelter in S. Chandler, performing spay/neuter procedures and directing post-operative recovery. You supervise Veterinary Technicians and assistants while managing rabies quarantine protocols and annual clinics. This direct-hire role offers a $141K-$231K salary and Monday-Friday hours with occasional weekends. You bring 2+ years of clinical experience and a current Arizona Veterinary License to a team dedicated to ethical animal welfare.
What You'll Do8
- 1Perform spay/neuter surgeries on pre-pubescent dogs and cats, including pre-op exams and anesthesia monitoring.
- 2Drive post-surgical recovery by ordering treatments and supervising technicians on all follow-up care.
- 3Lead emergency and non-emergency medical care for shelter animals, evaluating injuries and chronic conditions.
- 4Oversee rabies quarantine, assessing animals for symptoms and authorizing release per A.R.S. 32-2215 regulations.
- 5Coordinate and participate in annual Rabies Clinics, ensuring compliance with state vaccination laws.
- 6Supervise Veterinary Technicians and assistants, enforcing safe and ethical veterinary practices.
- 7Sign official documents including rabies certificates and pharmaceutical purchase orders as veterinarian of record.
- 8Evaluate impounded animals for abuse or neglect, documenting findings for legal proceedings.
Requirements7
- 1Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited college.
- 22+ years experience in veterinary care or animal control, including spay/neuter surgery.
- 3Current Arizona Veterinary License and DEA License for prescribing controlled substances.
- 440+ CEUs per year to maintain state licensing compliance.
- 5Completed or willingness to complete pre-exposure rabies immunization series within 90 days.
- 6Pass a background check and provide proof of immunization or medical waiver.
- 7Knowledge of animal abuse evaluation, disease diagnosis, and surgical techniques for shelter populations.
